There is nothing that gets by the superteen sleuth Veronica Mars and if a clue or approaching danger should slip her watchful eye – her close friends, father, and a collection of other guardian angels never cease to come to the rescue. The entertaining allure of the TV series, "Veronica Mars" is that each episode provides its own separate 'case,' that also ties into a much larger picture – whether it's solving the murder of her best friend or uncovering the culprit behind a devastating bus accident full of high school students.

"Veronica Mars" follows the trials and tribulations of a persistent high schooler living in the well-off town of Neptune. It is very clear in the beginning that Veronica does much more than assist her former sheriff father's private investigation business. She runs her own services out of the school bathroom– taking on cases that uncover lost dogs and puts an end to juvenile phone harassment. However, as she digs deep into the problems of fellow teenagers – her 'cases' coincide with the business of law enforcement cases and investigations led by her father.

The television series lasted for three seasons (2004 – 2007), attracting a large following that surpassed the targeted teenage crowd. Creator Ron Thomas did a superb job at bringing to life the adventures of a female private detective conquering class conflicts, teen friendships, and betrayal. The show was associated with Silver Pictures Production and originally aired on September 22nd, 2004 on the UPN until the CW Television Network became its new home in 2006.

The protagonist of the TV show is Veronica Mars (played by Kristen Bell), who has won a Saturn Award for her portrayal of the title character. Her best friend and sidekick, Wallace Fennel is played by Percy Daggs III. In the series, Mars lives with her father Keith Mars (played by Enrico Colantoni), where she serves as an assistant and secretary for his business. Along the way, Mars will shift between boyfriends (who happened to be best friends) Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) and Duncan Kane (Teddy Dunn).  Other characters emerge to help Mars along the way, including badboy "Weevil" (Francis Capra) and computer nerd Mac (Tina Majorino).

Overall, "Veronica Mars" has received a great deal of positive feedback from critics, including the Joss Whedon review (from Entertainment Weekly), who stated, "The teen-soap element of the show is just as compelling as the season-long murder mystery."

While the show no longer airs during a regular season, reruns have emerged here and there. Fans and curious viewers can also catch the DVD collection of "Veronica Mars," with the first season showcasing a six-disc compilation. Some critics have voiced mixed reviews on its presentation. Anita Srikamswaren (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) states that if 'seeing the first season is what it will take to make you a follower, and it might be, get the DVD set.' However, Filip Vukcevic (IGN) chastises the DVD for lacking extras.

I say – once you hear the addictive theme song "We Used to Be Friends" – you may become hooked on the television show, as this is what attracted me to the series in the first place.
